Biography

Daniel Franke (* September 6th, 1982) is an artist, curator and artistic researcher. He currently lives and works in Berlin. He studied visual communication and media art at the Berlin University of the Arts, completed his diploma in 2009 with Prof. Siegfried Zielinski and received his Meisterschüler in 2011.
He is currently a doctoral candidate at the Bauhaus University in Weimar and teaches at various universities, primarily in the field of AI.
He is also one of the founders of LEAP (Lab for Electronic Arts and Performance), an interdisciplinary non-profit project for emerging, digital media art and performance that tried to initiate the dialogue between art, science and technology.
In his work he challenges the understanding of the digital with the aim of examining it in the context of physical perception in the transformation process of algorithmic thinking towards the real. In doing so, he transforms practices known from classical animation and simulation processes into tangible forms in the “real”, factual and physical world, with the aim of researching complex relationships and making them tangible.
